
Maple sugar season

Habitat garden planting
FONLS board members and volunteers planted the Heritage Park’s native plant habitat garden, which had been sited and prepared near the origin of the trail system in August.

Bridge building

Habitat garden siting
Native plant expert Jocelyn Demuth of Checkerspot Farm siting a habitat garden for native shade plants. Once created, the garden will attract insects that pollinate plants and provide food for baby birds.

Wildlife tracking
Certified wildlife tracker Neill Bovaird of Wolf Tree Programs surveyed the Heritage Park for diversity of wildlife species. He examined tracks, food waste and habitats as well as directly observing animals throughout the day starting from before dawn.

Historic mill sites visit
Eva Gibavic and a FONLS board member visited the historic mill sites along the Sawmill River and Rattlesnake Gutter.

Community meetings
Community members met at Town Hall to discuss potential uses for the restored sawmill.

Perc tests
Foresight Land Services and L&F Construction conducted initial perc tests for the planned septic system.

Don Robinson was preparing for the surveying of the mill, for engineering visits, and for an open house we had for people interested in the mill’s rehabilitation.


Four Rivers School visit
Students from Four Rivers Public Charter School in Greenfield, MA, visited the sawmill on a ‘learning expedition’.

Spillway Design visit
Bob Leet, engineer visits dam again and completes design for the spillway in response to Conservation Commission request. Donald Robinson oversees and checks the spillway and sluice gate.

Moving day
Moving day of old potbelly stove to original location at the Mill from the Moore’s Corner Schoolhouse.
